This series of Napoleonic ship models is offered in both 1:600 and 1:900 scale. Each kit includes the parts for both scales, plus alternative parts in each kit featuring different armaments, decorations and paint schemes, making it possible to build many distinct ships from a single kit.
This special kit is meant to supplement the 1:600 scale Napoleonic ships in the catalogue above.
This kit includes variant parts which, in different combinations, will yield dozens of different ship models. There are three separate parts sheets and three separate sail sheets, for 18 gun, 20 gun and 22 gun sloops. Each parts sheet has variant parts that give you the option to choose between white or ochre hull strakes (the two most popular options during that era), brig or ship rigs, long gun or carronade armament, and European or American Great Lakes style stern decoration. There are also stern and bow platforms which can be optionally added, as these were featured on some classes of sloops. Each sail sheet includes a complete set of sails for both brig and ship rigs.
Here are just two of the many, many possible variants . . . a 22 gun ship-sloop and a 20 gun brig-sloop:
And here, for comparison, is the 18 gun brig variant, alongside the 1:600 scale 36 gun frigate (Kit #301) and the 64 gun ship of the line (Kit #302) (for reference, the squares on the mat are .5"):
With just this single kit, you can build all the ships necessary to fight such famous duels of the War of 1812 as USS Wasp VS HMS Frolic, HMS Avon, or HMS Reindeer, USS Hornet VS HMS Peacock, HMS Pelican VS USS Argus, USS Enterprise VS HMS Boxer, and USS Peacock VS HMS Epervier, and many others. (Note that because this "Party Pack" is crammed with so many parts and options, the price is US$10.00)
To get it, just ask for kit #300 (it's not in the catalogue).
The culmination of centuries of refinement, the men-of-war of the Napoleonic era were beautiful, awe-inspiring, and deadly.
Two new kits added to the series! See the catalogue, or view a picture on the Workbench page.
